IEEE PES High Performing Student Branch Chapter Program (HPSBCP) started in 2014 following the example for regular PES Chapters. 23 PES Student Branch Chapters participated in the first year submitting reports for their activities. In 2015, 37 PES Student Branch Chapters participated.

This year 72 PES Student Branch Chapters submitted reports for 2016 and will be awarded a total of $22,695.

The Outstanding Student Branch Chapter for 2016 is the Instituto Tecnologico de Costa Rica PES Student Branch Chapter and will be awarded with $1,000.

Other PES student chapters are also doing great things. They are providing so many great activities (technical, social, humanitarian etc.) that is impossible to list them in this short article. In future issues of PES eNews Update we will try to present individual PES student branch chapters and their activities.

In 2016 PES student branch chapters organized many conferences, technical lectures, workshops, tours, etc. There were many different technical activities such as: ‘’PLC Programming’’ (Instituto Tecnologico de Costa Rica), ‘’Newton Raphson Contest’’, ‘’Coffe gathering with Specialist’’ (Uninorte), ‘’PES TamanduCar’’ (Universidade Federal do ABC), ‘’Think Engineering’’ (University of British Columbia) and many, many others.

Our student branch chapters also organized many different and diverse social activities such as: ‘’ Celebrating the day of volunteering’’, ‘’ Visit to Shuabb Humanitarian Activity’’ – donation of gifts, candies, food to the indigenous children of Shuabb, (Instituto Tecnologico de Costa Rica), ‘’Escape room’’ (University of Sarajevo), ‘’Pub quiz’’ (University of Osijek) and many, many others.

The HPSBCP 2016 showed the diversity of our PES student branch chapters and showed many different activities, creativity, ideas and future plans. For sure there is a bright future for PES. And at the end I would quote Albert Einstein: ‘’If you want different results, do not do the same’’.
