Mr. Guillermo Rodriguez obtained his B.Sc, and M.Sc. degrees from the National University of Colombia in Bogotá and the University of London (Queen Mary College) in 1972, and 1977, respectively. He worked at Telecom Colombia, Colombian Electric Power Institute, Westinghouse between 1972 and 1989. From 1990 to 2007 he worked with ABB USA in different positions, being the last as Export Director of ABB Transmission and Distribution Division of ABB USA. In 2008 he was appointed President of ABB Central America and the Caribbean. He retired in January 2014. Mr. Rodriguez is a PES distinguished lecturer and a senior life member of IEEE. He has taught many courses in the IEEE on Transmission and Distribution topics.

Mr. Rodriguez delivered a 3-day tutorial on the topic of “Distribution and Power transformers up to 30MVA” to Norther Canada Section PES/IAS Jt. Chapter on Sept. 27-29, 2017.

There were 56 attendees for this tutorial. The agenda was very extensive that includes basic transformer theory, transformer standards, different transformer types, transformer test, loss evaluation and maintenance etc. The speaker was successful to cover all the topics in the time allotment. A facility tour of a transformer shop at ABB Power Service was also provided. The local volunteers also arranged busing for the attendees and provided morning and noon meals.

Mr. Rodriguez makes his tutorial materials applicable to Canadian Codes and the technical content was an excellent quality. The attendees provided very positive feedback for the tutorial saying that the lecturer’s anecdotes are very applicable and was effective at communicating his vast amount of knowledge on the subject matter. Overall, Mr. Rodriguez “receives an excellent evaluation for all the time, work, and effort he put into this tutorial.”
