IEEE PES Kenyan Chapter celebrated the PES Day on 22nd April 2018 at the Strathmore Energy Research Center (SERC). At the beginning of the event, there was a powerful opening prayer by Joy Atieno. Next the interim coordinator Faith Gicugu delivered introductory remarks. The interim PES Kenya Chapter Chair Eng. Eliud Limo presented a brief history of PES and the milestones taken so far.

Humphrey Muhindi, the IEEE TEMS YP R8 Industry Relations Lead spoke about the essence of active involvement in IEEE and highlighted some opportunities that lay ahead for the chapter. Mercy Chelangat K, the acting Secretary and PES Women in Power (WiP) representative for IEEE R8– Africa Section, encouraged the members to join WiP to support job growth, professional networks and women’s education in the energy industry.

At the end, the participants were inducted around the solar plant, a 600kW grid-tied system, part of which is fed to the Kenya Power utility grid. The participants were extremely pleased for the formation of the PES chapter and inspired the initiative taken by the organizers to celebrate the PES day.
