With the aim for ‘More Power to the Future’, IEEE Bangladesh Section Women in Engineering (WIIE) affinity group (AG) in association with IEEE University of Asia Pacific (UAP) SB WIE AG celebrated IEEE PES Day 2018 at University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka, Bangladesh on the 28th April 2018 with the support of IEEE UAP SB. In this event, IEEE Bangladesh Section Chair Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET and IEEE PES Women in Power Region-10 Representative was present along with Nafisa Zarrin Tasnim, Assistant Engineer, Energypac Engineering Ltd, Tasnuva Binte Anowar, Assistant Engineer, DPDC, Shoile Chakma, Lecturer, AIT, BUET and Purnata Roy, Assistant Engineer, DESCO and share their experience in academia and power sectors. In addition to that, Anamika Bhakta, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Robi Axiata Ltd and Chair, IEEE BDS WIE AG as well as Asma Huque, Consultant, ADB were also present at the event.

The speakers encouraged the participants for giving more emphasis in the field of power and energy focusing on how vast working opportunity lies in this field. They talked about how women can build their careers in the power sector. They told us what obstacles were faced by a woman and informed us about how we can overcome those obstacles. One of the speakers mentioned the availability and advantage of a day-care center for working mother in workplaces. Another speaker shared her research work with us on power and energy. They all talked about women’s empowerment. When both male and women will work together in power sector, this will bring more power to the future.

This joyful event was attended by a large number of students and faculties from different universities. The event was later followed by an exciting quiz competition with attractive gifts for the winners. Finally, the PES day was celebrated by cake cutting ceremony and a human chain where the faculties, students as well as the speakers were participated in demonstrating PES DAY.
