It is my pleasure to again share some great news from members of our Society. My first recommendation is to review the list of 2018 PES Award Recipients (https://www.ieee-pes.org/pes-communities/awards). Each award recipient has made distinguished accomplishments and amazing innovations in emerging research and development that have benefited PES members and our society as a whole. Today’s greatest innovations come from those who believe that learning is a lifelong journey. No matter how much we learn, no matter what advancements we achieve, innovators always strive for more — to discover the next advancement that will be even more impactful on the world.
I remember when I attended my first PES Awards Gala several years ago and how I was amazed with so many great names at the head table. I have to admit that I still have the same feeling each year and I still want to have my books close to me to get some autographs. The 2019 PES Awards Online Nominations site is already open. Do you know someone whose accomplishments make him/her a worthy recipient of a PES award? PES recognizes important technical, educational and service contributions through the conferral of numerous awards. We are looking to receive nominations from all over of the world.
I am also happy to share that we also received great news from IEEE. IEEE PES Young Professionals Group has been selected as a winner of the 2018 IEEE Young Professionals Hall of Fame Award. Our group has been recognized for demonstrating outstanding performance in the following areas: Vitality of the group measured in terms of the amount and quality of organized activities, collaboration with other IEEE units in order to facilitate engagement of members of all grades, collaboration with industry and academia and new inspiring ideas that help grow the local Young Professionals community.
I would also like to share some tips for the rest of the year. It is a great time to invite new members. After Aug. 16, new members will get16 months for the price of 12! If they start their membership now, they will get the rest of 2018 and all of 2019 for one low price.
If you are also thinking about renewal now, please also evaluate if you are a candidate for the IEEE eMembership. IEEE offers an electronic membership option with reduced dues to some countries. https://www.ieee.org/membership/join/emember-countries.html
