The two sides can carry out further cooperation on the most important issues of energy and power technology innovation and development

On Nov. 5, South China University of Technology and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) signed a strategic cooperation agreement (MoU) in Building 9 of the School of Electric Power.

Mr. Yu Qijun, deputy secretary of the school, Professor Marisa L. Crow, VP Publication of the IEEE Power and Energy Society, Dean Sharafi, Region Representative of the IEEE Power and Energy Society in Asia Pacific, and Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour, academician of the US Academy of Engineering, attended the ceremony.

Mr. Yu Qijun introduced the development status and school achievements of South China University of Technology to the participants. He said that South China University of Technology and IEEE have common goals in power and energy, especially in Smart Grid, Integrated Energy and other related fields. Heenvisaged that on the basis of this cooperation, the two sides can carry out further cooperation on the most important issues of energy and power technology innovation and development. In addition, he also expressed his hope that the cooperation between the two sides can build a broader platform for technological innovation, academic exchanges and international cooperation.

Dean Sharafi gave a brief introduction to the current state of engagements of the Power and Energy Society in different aspects. Since its inception, the IEEE PES has been committed to advancing the advancement and application of electrical technology in theory and application. As a catalyst for technological innovation, IEEE supports the needs of its members in a wide range of activities and services to promote technology and information exchange in power and energy, developing and recommending technology standards, and rewarding members with scientific achievements.

Mr. Yu Qijun and Dean Sharafi signed the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement (MoU) in presence of the witnesses from university and IEEE PES. According to the cooperation agreement, South China University of Technology and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will conduct extensive communication and cooperation in the field of power and energy to improve, guide, innovate and promote technological development in this field and promote industry progress.

University officials from Guangzhou International Campus International Affairs Office, Science and Technology Achievement, Transformation Office, Science and Technology Department, and other university representatives attended the signing ceremony.
