The Symposium of Electrical Engineering is the main event of National University of Engineering (UNI) PES SB Chapter, which is organized every year since 2010. On November 26-30th, UNI PES SB Chapter members, in partnership with leading technology electrical companies at Peru, organized the ninth edition of this event, which was hosted in CTIC Auditorium UNI, Lima, Peru and Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The chosen theme was “New technologies at Electrical Peruvian System”. For the first time, the event was selected to receive financial support by IEEE PES Member Driven Initiatives (MDI) Program.

IX Symposium of Electrical Engineering

During those days, many lectures, workshops and a technical visit were organized. A brief description of the event is given below:

On day 1 (November 26th), Riccardo Lama (ENEL Peru General Manager) gave the first lecture that was titled “Evolution of renewable energies and new technologies development”. That session was followed by another lecture titled: “Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) at Peruvian Electrical System”, conducted by M.Sc. Jorge Cabrera Chirre (COES SINAC Operation Especialist).

On day 2 (November 27th), a workshop titled “Management of ETAP Software” was conducted by M.Sc. YilmazLuy (ETAP Latin America Sales Manager). This workshop created many expectations, and was totally successful.

On day 3 (November 28th), Dr. Rodolfo Zamalloa (CONTINUA ENERGIAS POSITIVAS Energy and Smart Systems Manager and IEEE Senior Member) gave the third lecture of the week, titled “Sustainable cities and electromobility: the future of electrical energy”. After that lecture, another lecture was conducted by Harold Gálvez (CREATECH Operations Manager), which was titled “Energy efficiency and cogeneration”.

On day 4 (November 29th), some UNI PES SB Chapter members visited Chilcauno Thermal Power Plant (ENGIE) in the morning. In the evening, a workshop titled “Management of GAMS Software” was conducted by M.Sc Jorge Cabrera.

On day 5 (November 30th), Dr. Julio Salvador Jacome (OSINERGMIN) gave a lecture titled “Blockchain at electrical industry”. After this, the last lecture of the event was titled “The future of the cities: an analysis since advanced electrical grids viewpoint”, and was conducted by Dr. Jorge Luis MirezTarrillo (UNI Professor and 2018 IEEE PES UNI SB Chapter advisor).

It was a successful event, with about 200 attendees of which 54 were IEEE members, including IEEE PES UNI volunteers, who learned a lot and encouraged their careers.
