WIE Mission

The mission of WIE is to inspire, engage, encourage, and empower IEEE women worldwide.

 

WIE Vision

IEEE WIE envisions a vibrant community of IEEE women and men innovating the world of tomorrow. IEEE WIE strives to:

  • recognize women’s outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics engineering through IEEE Awards nominations
  • organize receptions at major technical conferences to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE
  • advocate women in leadership roles in IEEE governance and career advancement for women in the profession
  • provide assistance with the formation of new WIE Affinity Groups and support ongoing activities
  • promote IEEE member grade advancement for women to the membership grades of Senior Member and Fellow
  • facilitate the development of programs and activities that promote the entry into and retention of women in engineering programs
  • administer the IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program to mentor young women in junior and high schools

Recent Activities

TECHNOLOGY TRENDING, a one day WIC Mini-Conference, was held at the National Constitution Center Independence Mall, (between 6th and Market Street), in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, 3 December 2011, from 10am to 4pm. This event was organized by IEEE Region 1, IEEE Region 2, and the IEEE Philadelphia Section.

Presentations were given by Peter Staecker, IEEE President Elect, Naresh Chand, IEEE North Jersey Section Chair, on Emerging technologies of 21st century, M. Nisa Khan, LED Lighting Technologies, and further included
“Ambassador Girl Scout Laura Fulton – Film”. Keynote speakers were Donald Hall on Smart Grid and Mary Ellen Randall on
Smart Phone Applications. The program further included Networking – Learn “Geocaching” over Lunch, and a tour of
the National Constitution Center.
