Call for Papers: 5th International Symposium on Resilient Control Systems

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012
The 5th International Symposium on Resilient Control Systems
Extends paper submission deadline to April 23, 2012.
Symposium is held in Salt Lake City August 14-16, 2012 at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center
See Website for details: https://secureweb.inl.gov/isrcs2012/

The major purpose of this symposium is to extend and endorse particular concepts that will generate novel research and codify resilience in next generation control system designs.

Energy security and sustainability are important concerns to individuals and industry alike, but even with the promise of a smart grid, increasing research will be necessary to ensure that what is achieved is more resilient in nature. As mobile and industrial robotics form an ever increasing role in both national defense and plant automation, the dependence on these systems elevates a need to ensure continued operability in spite of hazardous environments. Through appropriate sessions and presentations, the symposium will highlight resilience in light of the power system and robotics, bringing to light resilience perspectives important to these applications.

- Paper Submission Due: April 2, 2012 April 23, 2012 Extended
- Notification of Paper Acceptance: June 4, 2012
- Final Paper Submission: July 9, 2012
- Author Registration: July 9, 2012
- Early Registration for Other Participants and Guests Ends: July 13, 2012

Orange County (CA) Intercollegiate Computer Game Showcase April 28

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Announcing the First IEEE-Orange County GameSIG Intercollegiate Computer Game Showcase

Cheer your favorite University as student teams go head-to-head showing off their games before a panel of judges from our internationally renowned Orange County Video Game Industry.

The Showcase will be held Saturday afternoon, April 28th, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Folino Theater – Chapman University, 283 N. Cypress St., Orange, CA 92688.

Game Development Students from UC-Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, Chapman University, Cal Poly Pomona, and other local colleges will present their best student developed video games for judging by video game industry leaders.  The event will include a reception with refreshments, game demonstrations by the student developers, a job fair, and a Big Screen Game Fest with the XBox 360 and a Wii (so far).  Put on your game face and come to cheer your favorite school, watch demos and play games. There will be no speeches, just games. There will be prizes.

Microsoft will award an XBox 360 as a prize. Microsoft will also award two Windows phones to the best Windows phone Games or Apps. Western Digital is giving away 25 My Pocket Essential 500GB drives.

The public is invited to attend this kick-off of what we hope will come to be an annual intercollegiate competition. And its all FREE FREE FREE (if you RSVP here).

Agenda:

  • 2:00PM – 4:00PM  The best developers of the universities will compete for honors before our panel of judges. who are local Game Industry leaders such as (in no particular order) David Perry (Gaikai), Tommy Tallarico (GANG), Matt Findley (inXile), William Fisher (Quicksilver), Kevin Martens (Blizzard), Robert Rose (SpaceX). This panel is a lively bunch, and it may seem more like American Idol than an academic event. Student game developers will have ten minutes to shock and awe the judges.
  • 4:00PM – 6:00PM  We will have a casual Game Demo Session, Job Fair, and Reception. The audience will have the opportunity to get some hands-on time with the games created by the finalists and semi-finalists, enjoy refreshments, and visit with recruiters from companies like SpaceX and Western Digital. So, BRING YOUR RESUME!
  • 6:00PM until ? -  Casual Game Fest. An After Party featuring Big Screens, an XBox, a Wii, and maybe some of the finalist’s games will be setup for the attendees’ enjoyment.  This has proven to be much fun for the audience at our past events.  It’s Saturday night, so we can play into the wii hours, as pleases us.

Warning: Parking is $2.00, unless you are one of the first 100 to register. Chapman University’s Schmid College will provide free Parking Permits to the first 100 Registrants who request them. Please do not request one if you are not driving.  Also, seating is limited.
