The Region 9 is a Geographical Unit of the IEEE (one of the 10 existing ones) that covers Latin America and the Caribbean and has the mission to provide services to our members, professionals and students who support the creation process, the development and the integration of the Engineering, sharing and applying knowledge about the technologies and sciences and of the information, adapted to our conditions and needs, with the aim of promoting social and economic development of mankind in the Latin American Region.

Toward the achievement of these achievements the region:

  • Supports the interests of members, whose professional and technical objectives
    coincide with the responsibilities of the region within the IEEE.
  • Encourages student activities and provides general supervision to the operation
    of Student Branches within the region.
  • Provides professional recognition to the achievements of the members of the Region through awards, prizes and nominations to higher grades of Senior and Fellow of the IEEE.
  • Circulates a periodical publication with articles, news, announcements and other information of interest to the regional membership.
  • Provides training opportunities of its members through workshops and seminars.
  • Collaborates with the chapters and sections in the promotion and implementation of programs for the education of its members.
  • Coordinates development programs of membership.
  • Collaborates with the Councils and sections in the realization of technical congresses.
  • Promotes the participation of members in technical activities.
  • Promotes technical speakers visits to different locations within the region to present conferences for the professional development of its members.
  • Promotes the use of electronic communications as a means of communication more cost-effective given the conditions of geographic dispersion of the membership of our Region.
