Imaging Spectroscopy Technologies and Applications
October 31, 2016 @ 15:00 - 16:00
Co-sponsored by: SPIE-OSA Student Chapter
With the advent of advanced instrumentation, imaging spectroscopy has been established as an irreplaceable technique for remotely sensing the surface properties of planetary bodies. Imaging spectrometers have revealed the composition of the surface of Mars, the Moon, and of course the Earth. The spatial scale can vary from kilometers to micrometers, while the wavelength range of interest spans the ultraviolet to the thermal infrared. In this talk we will review the enabling technologies that permit imaging spectrometers to achieve the required level of performance as well as application areas ranging from mineralogy to plant health, water quality, and ocean biology. We will also discuss the latest trends in instrumentation, including CubeSat and Landsat-swath capability.
