SEL Event

The IEEE Saudi Arabia Section in collaboration with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc (SEL) and Consulting Services Department (CSD) Saudi Aramco conducted a one-day Technical Seminar titled “New Trends and Techniques in Managing Electric Power” as part of its Industry Continuing Education program on September 28th, 2016. IEEE Saudi Arabia Section, Industry Application Society (IAS) Chapter, is pleased to announce a one-day Seminar as part of its Continuing Professional Education Program.  Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion with Professional Development Hours (PDH).

Seminar Title: Design, Installation & Trouble-shooting of Insulated Power Cables for Commercial and VFD Applications
Date & Time: Tuesday, 17 May 2011 (14 Jumada II, 1432H) 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Registration 7:30 am

Part 1: A Review of Cable Design & Proper Cable Installation

  • Cable Design Considerations – Conductor to Outer Jacket (A review of Conductors, Strand Screen, Insulation, Shield Screen, Shields, Armor and Jackets)
  • Best Practices and Guidelines for Proper Cable Installation (The best methods for Proper Cable Installation in Tray, Duct and Direct Burial)
Part 2: Cable for Adjustable Speed Drives & Troubleshooting

  • Cable Design for ASD’s
  1. Three Power Conductors with a Good Thermoset Insulation Cabled Together.
  2. Three Ground Wires in the Interstices.
  3. Continuous Corrugated Aluminum.
  4. Overall Protective Jacket.
  • Trouble Shooting a Cable Installation

Conducted by international presenters:

wayne_maddenWayne Madden: Mr. Madden received his BSEE in 1977 from Texas Tech University. He worked for HL&P, Powell Electric and Gould ITE prior to joining The Okonite Company in 1982. He is presently VP of International Sales – Oil & Gas. He has been a member of IEEE for over 25 years. He is past Chair of IEEE 576, Recommended Practice for Installation, Termination, and Testing of Insulated Power Cable as Used in Industrial and Commercial Applications. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

Eli Contreras

Mr. Contreras joined The Okonite Company in 1988. He is currently Director of International Sales – Latin America & Lower Caribbean Area. He previously worked for Corpoven (now PDVSA), AEG-Telefunken in Venezuela, and was with Westinghouse Electric Co. in Houston, Texas for 8 years. He received his BSEE in 1975 from The University of Texas at Austin and MBA in 1978 from St. Edward’s University, also in Austin. He was a member of Working Group P1242 for IEEE 1242, Guide for Specifying and Selecting Power, Control, and Special-Purpose Cable for Petroleum and Chemical Plants.
