The student branch of IEEE Power Electronics Society, Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Bangalore, organized a tutorial on 3rd April 2018 on “Indian Power Scenario and Real Time operation of India Grid”.  The session was presided over by Mr. Yekambaran Kasani (Senior Engineer) and was attended by about 25 students .

The program started with a welcome speech by the secretary of IEEE PELS, ASE Bangalore, who outlined the achievements of the speaker Mr. Yekambaran Kasani. Mr. Kasani initiated the talk who started the talk by giving the audience a glimpse into the evolution of Power systems and the evolution of frequencies. He further explained about Smart Grid and how it is different from the power grids we know today. He gave a detailed analysis about the various Smart Grid technologies in use today.

During the Second Session, he gave information about the Indian power system and peculiarities of regional grids in India and also International interconnections. Mr.Kasani also briefly explained the working of transmission lines, transformers, and real time issues faced by them. He gave a detailed explanation about SCADA system its main components, and also PMU with its applications.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks and felicitation of the speaker by the Chair of IEEE PES -SB, ASE-B.  It was an interactive session and a true learning experience for the students, and will help the students in their Projects.
