The IEEE EMBS MSRIT student Chapter in association with IEEE EMBS Bangalore Chapter and IEEE Bangalore section organized a one day “Symposium on bridgeing the gap  between Engineering and Medical domains” conducted on 28th March, 2013.It was a unique culmination of professionals from both the Engineering and Medical domain. A Souvenir was released to mark this occasion. An Idea Contest was held for the students where they were given a chance to showcase their ideas to solve the present problems in the healthcare domain. A panel discussion was held between experts from the engineering and medical domain on the different ways by which the gap between engineering and medical domains can be bridged to address the current problems in healthcare and provide solutions that can benefit the society.

The Idea Contest organized at the Symposium saw active participation of students from various colleges. The main purpose of this contest was to provide a platform to ignite young minds with innovative ideas which can bring a radical change in the field of healthcare. Ideas included a 4-in-1 device consisting of a smart e-stethoscope, head mount camera, pulseoximeter and a urine analysis tool that won the first prize, an easy syringe that can be used to inject at fixed angles of 45 and 90 degrees which won the second place and many more ideas including a GSM based medicine vending machine, an emote sensor, wearable arrhythmia detector and a pain sensing device.
