IEEE Usask Student Branch 2017-2018 Elections will be held at

our Annual General Meeting

(AGM) on March 23rd at 5:20pm – 6:00pm ENG 1B12.

All students currently enrolled in Electrical or Computer Engineering (full time or part time) are eligible to vote.

All nominated candidates must be present at the AGM

 

The IEEE Usask Student branch operates as the student government for all electrical and computer engineering students. This is a great opportunity to for you to get involved in your program, interact with the faculty and student body.

On a larger scale, the IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

IEEE Beer End Banquet

Its time for the IEEE Year end banquet!
Come on down to the Hose and Hydrant Pub on March 31st for a steak dinner / Beer night.

The two ticket options avalable will be the dinner (15$) or Dinner + Beer night (20$). Tickets will be sold in advance from the IEEE in Macnaughton (2C54)

If you are going to both, The event starts at 630 with dinner being served at 7. The beer night will run from 8pm to 10 Immediately following the dinner.

Exec Position Nominations for 2017 now open!

Looking at getting involved next year? The IEEE Usask Student branch is holding our annual elections for positions in the 2017-2018 academic year.
Applications are available to be picked up at the McNaughton Centre.
Nominations are due March 16th by 5:00pm.
Elections will be held at our Annual General Meeting

Student-Prof Bowling
 
This Friday is our annual Student/ Prof bowling event! This is a great opportunity to get to know your profs in a social setting! We are meeting at 8pm at McNaughton (2C54) and carpooling over to Eastview Bowling alley for 8:30. The event starts at 9pm.
Price is $15 per person for an hour of bowling, including shoe rental. If interested, sign up on the list posted on the door of ENG 2C54.
All New Interdisciplinary Beer Pong Tournament!
 
The first ever interdisciplinary beer pong tourney is on Friday, January 27th!
Sign up in teams of 2 to prove once and for all that EE & CME are the disciplines of champions! If you don’t want to participate but still want to see this legendary battle of wills unfold, spectator admission is FREE!
Team Registration is $20 to cover beer used for the tournament ($10 per person). If you just feel like cheering us on, admission is FREE.
Drinks are $4 and pizza will be $2 a slice. The event is being held at Cosmos Centre (the hall beside the Hose).

Illumination
Illumination is an annual conference put on by the University of Saskatchewan IEEE Student Branch which aims to provide electrical and computer engineering students with information and experiences they won’t necessarily get in school such as networking with industry, learning about current industry trends and developing soft skills. This year Illumination will feature 9-11 speakers from many different industries including some from Alberta.

This year Illumination is February 3rd and 4th at Louis Loft. Tickets for Illumination are $35 for IEEE members and $40 for non-members. It includes admission to an open bar mixer on Friday night and the general conference on Saturday including breakfast lunch and dinner. This conference is an excellent opportunity to further your professional via networking and out-of-class education!

The responsibility of the McNaughton Centre Director as outlined in the IEEE Usask Student Branch Constitution:
The McNaughton Centre Director shall operate and maintain the McNaughton Centre for the University of Saskatchewan. Duties and responsibilities of the McNaughton Centre Director include:
      1) Chairing the McNaughton Committee.
      2) Reporting all relevant affairs of the McNaughton Committee to the Executive.
      3) Recording minutes of McNaughton Committee meetings.
      4) Having the authority to co-sign cheques for all the bank accounts excluding HVC and Illumination.
      5) Obtaining McNaughton Centre operating grants from IEEE Region 7 (Canada) and IEEE North Saskatchewan Section.
      6) Organizing each term’s textbook sale with the Financial Director.
      7) Organizing and maintaining the McNaughton Centre store.
      8) Organizing and maintaining the McNaughton Centre administrative supplies.

Where: McNuaghton (Eng 2C54)
When: Jan 10 – 19 from 9:00am – 3:00pm

Sell: Drop off your old textbooks, you set the price and we sell them for you! (IEEE takes a $5 fee)
Buy: Come check out what we have to sell; we have new books being brought in every day!

Pizza Sale Returns

The IEEE weekly pizza sales are back!

Starting this week, the pizza sale will be held on Thursdays outside of ENG 2C02 (by the agriculture skywalk) starting at 11:30am. Prices are:

$2.50 per slice
$5.00 for 2 slices and a drink

Come by McNaughton to see this years selection, snazzy sweatpants included.

There will be a deadline for clothing orders announced in next week’s email. Deadline is expected to be early February.

Emerging Agriculture Hackathon!

Next week is one of the largest and most important events in the Saskatoon tech community, the Emerging Agriculture Hackathon! If you are not familiar with the event, Emerging Ag is an agriculture-themed hackathon hosted by the University of Saskatchewan Junior Chamber of Commerce. Students from the collages of agriculture, computer science, and commerce will work in collaboration with software & hardware developers and experts in agriculture from industry to solve the problems of agriculture using technology and innovation. This is the third year for the event and it is the first and largest Ag-themed hackathon in Canada! Featuring Rob Saik, founder of Agritrend as a keynote speaker and a panel discussion to follow the event has something for both participants and spectators alike! 1st and 2nd place teams will take home prize packs and four meals will be provided throughout the weekend. Come be a part of the Emerging Agriculture community and help us build the future of food!
