Persistent Memory in Consumer Electronics

March 28, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

IEEE Consumer Electronics Society Santa Clara Valley chapter brings to you an exciting talk on Persistent Memory in Consumer Electronics

Speaker: Tom Coughlin, President, Coughlin Associates

Abstract: Digital storage and memory are crucial elements in modern consumer electronics, whether in a consumer device or used for on-line cloud services. With the advent of faster wireless networks and IoT applications, storage will grow at device endpoints, at the edge and in data centers.  The trade-off of performance versus cost will continue to favor the use of many different types of storage in a hierarchy.  There are new types of persistent memory that could replace today’s volatile memory and dramatically impact consumer devices and the services that support them and perhaps even upset tomorrow’s storage hierarchy.  Moving to non-volatile memory in consumer products enables lower power consumption and more power saving states, extending battery life.  This talk will explore important developments in digital storage and memory that will enable consumer services from devices, to the edge and the data center.
