Abstract:

Both film and electronic image sensors have followed a similar path to capturing color information. As we progress towards high-resolution photography, it is essential to sample true color at every point in the image. The various approaches people have taken to achieve this goal are presented first.  Finally, the unique system of the Foveon X3 technology is described. The advantages and disadvantages of this scheme are discussed.

Biography:

Shri obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY. He spent his entire career in semiconductor industry, in process engineering, technology development, device engineering and product design. Most of his tenure was at Motorola in Phoenix. For the past 15 years, he has been working in electronic imaging. Currently he is the General Manager of Foveon, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sigma Corp. of Kawasaki City, Japan.
