Meeting of WIE Affinity Group

Sunday, December 3rd, 2017
There will be a meeting of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affiliate group on Wednesday December 13 between 6 and 8 PM in Room 1016 of McDonell Douglas Hall on the campus of St. Louis University.  Al of those in the section interested in reviving the WIE group should plan to attend.  Dinner will be provided by the section.

Call for Nominations of 2018 IEEE St. Louis Section Officer: Section Secretary

We are seeking nominations for the upcoming year 2018 Section Secretary.

St. Louis Section Secretary is a progressive position that will move up annually in to the positions of Treasurer, Vice-Chair and, Chair respectively.

Section Secretary Duties:
Principle responsibility of a Section Executive Committee member is to oversee the management of the Section, and in doing so, serve the
best interest of the IEEE, its members and the public. A Section Secretary is a key member of the Section Executive Committee and as such, acts as a gateway between Section members and the IEEE.

FIRST Robotics in Need of Volunteers

The local FIRST Committee is in need of volunteers for their FLL Qualifiers (November-December).  FLL stands for FIRST LEGO League, and is part of the FIRST Robotics program that engages students (grades K-12th ) in a variety of Robotics related challenges.  All of the participants at the FLL level are in grades 4th-8th, and have been working very hard for several months to successfully program their EV3 Robots.  The students must program their robots to complete missions, and all of these missions have to do with the theme: Hydrodynamics.  Below are some helpful links to provide you with more information and the pathway to volunteer.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers STEM Event

Kids Build and Code

The St. Louis Section of the IEEE is offering a free introductory workshop to engineering projects and project management for elementary and middle school students on Saturday Nov. 11, 2017. The participants will learn how to develop engineering projects by integrating software, hardware (Arduino) and components (switches, LEDs etc) using basic examples. By working in a group, the participants will also learn about team building and collaboration.

Those interested in participating in the workshop must be registered by Nov. 4, 2017. The event is to be be held on the campus of St. Louis University. For details please download the Kids Build and Code Flyer.


IEEE St. Louis Section Sumo Robot Challenge

The St. Louis Section of the IEEE is proud to announce its 2017 Sumo Robot Challenge.  The Section with support from Burns and McDonnell, Nidec Motors, SLU, and RoboMo is sponsoring a series of robotics workshops for high school students. We are looking for 4 teams composed of 3 – 5 students to compete in a Sumo Robot Wrestling Contest on Jan. 6, 2018.   See the the flyer for details.
