Theresa S. Mayer is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Vice President for Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech. She received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1989 and 1994, where she was a Kodak Fellow. Prior to joining Virginia Tech in 2016, she was a Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation in the College of Engineering at Penn State University. While at Penn State, she served for 10 years as both the Site Director of the NSF National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NSF-NNIN) and an Interdisciplinary Group Leader in the NSF Materials Research and Science and Center (NSF-MRSEC) Center for Nanoscale Science. Her research interests are in the application of hierarchical top-down nanofabrication and bottom-up directed assembly methods to create advanced nanoelectronic and nanophotonic devices with new functionalities. She has published more than 200 refereed articles and proceedings, given over 100 invited/keynote presentations, and holds nine patents. She chaired the IEEE Device Research Conference and the Gordon Research Conference on Nanostructure Fabrication. She is a member of the IEEE IEDM Program and EDS Education Award Committees, and a senior editor of IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology.
