Technical Areas for TNANO Papers

In the following, “including” is used as an abbreviation for “including but not limited to”, and serves to introduce a non-exhaustive list of sub-areas within an area. These areas will be modified as needed as time goes by. They are used as a basis for appointing Associate Editors, for grouping them under Editors, and also for routing papers very quickly as they come in, by asking authors to declare which area they think their paper belongs to.

1. Nano and molecular electronics, including: silicon nanoelectronics and post-CMOS devices; memory and processing devices.

2. Circuits and architectures for nanosystems, including fault-tolerance.

3. Nanomagnetism and spintronics.

4. Nanooptics, nanooptoelectronics and nanophotonics.

5. Nanorobotics and nanoassembly, including: nanomanipulation with scanning probe microscopes, laser traps, dielectrophoresis, electrical and magnetic fields; directed passive or active self-assembly.

6. Nanosensors and nanoactuators, including nanowire/nanotube sensors, resonators, and molecular actuators.

7. Nanomechanics and NEMS (nanoelectromechanical systems).

8. Nanobiotechnology and nanomedicine, including: nanosystems for biomedical applications, biomimetic systems, biotic-abiotic interfaces, biological motors and other biological components.

9. Nanofabrication and nanolithography, including: synthesis of building blocks such as nanoparticles or nanotubes; nanoimprint, dip pen, scanning probe, and electron beam lithographies.

10. Nanometrology and characterization, including instruments and imaging.

11. Computational nanotechnology, including modeling and simulation.

12. Other. Choose this only if nothing else applies, since it will slow down processing.
