An active volunteer for more than 30 years, Doug Zuckerman is a past IEEE Division III (Communications Technology) Director, was 2008-2009 President of the IEEE Communications Society, and previously held leadership positions in conferences, publications and membership development. He received his B.S., M.S. and Eng.Sc.D degrees from Columbia University, USA, and is an IEEE Life Fellow. His professional experience, mainly at Bell Labs and Telcordia Technologies, USA, spans the operations, management and engineering of emerging communications technologies, networks and applications. His work heavily influenced early standards for management of telecommunications networks. Presently semi-retired, he is still active in standards as a representative to the OpenFog Consortium as a board member. He is also a consulting employee for Vencore Labs. He currently serves on the IEEE Communications Society’s Board of Governors and the IEEE Future Directions Committee.
Dr. Daneshmand is Professor of Department of Business Intelligence & Analytics as well as Department of Computer Science at Stevens Institute of Technology. He has more than 35 years of Industry & University experience as Professor, Researcher, Assistant Chief Scientist, Executive Director, Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, Technology Leader, Chairman of Department, and Dean of College at: Bell Laboratories; AT&T Shannon Labs–Research; University of California, Berkeley; University of Texas, Austin; Sharif University of Technology; University of Tehran; New York University; and Stevens Institute of Technology.
He has Ph.D and M.S. degrees in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley; M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mathematics from the University of Tehran.

John Barr retired after 37 years from Agilent Technologies / Hewlett Packard in 2008. He served in various engineering R&D roles, including as the R&D Manager/Director for Agilent’s Wireless Semiconductor Test Solutions. John was involved in the development and design of RF and Microwave component measurement systems for R&D labs and high volume RFIC manufacturing test systems.
John is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and has been active in the IEEE for many years including as 2002 President of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTTS), active on the IEEE Technical Activities Board & also the IEEE Publication Services and Products Board and in 2013-2014 served on the IEEE Board of Directors and was IEEE Treasurer.
John has been in involved in many IEEE conferences including as General Chair of the 2006 IEEE MTTS International Microwave Symposium and the General Chair of the 2012 IEEE Radio & Wireless Week.
Celia Desmond, Lead Project Manager for Echologics Engineering has established a Project Management Office for a rapidly growing company, where her team manages all proposals, contracts and processes for the project managers. She is also President of World Class – Telecommunications, which provides training in telecommunications management. Celia has lectured internationally on programs for success in today’s changing environment. She recently completed a project converting the network of a major Canadian bank to an MPLS network. As a Director at Stentor Resource Center Inc., she was instrumental in establishing culture and new processes for service/product development and for project governance. At Bell Canada, Celia provided strategic direction to corporate planners, ran technology/service trials, standardized equipment, and provided technical and project management support to large business clients.
She has held numerous senior management positions at IEEE including Project Director for Certification in Wireless Engineering Technology, managing a team of over 200 people in 8 different development areas, Director and Secretary of IEEE, IEEE Vice President – Technical Activities, President of IEEE Communications Society. President of IEEE Canada, Division Director, Vice President Engineering Management Society.. Celia holds MSc. Engineering, B.Sc. Kathy Grise is the Senior Program Director of IEEE Future Directions which supports new technology initiatives and is the IEEE Staff Program Director for the Big Data Initiative, Smart Materials Initiative, the IEEE Technology Navigator, and manages the digital presence team for Future Directions. Prior to joining the IEEE staff, Ms. Grise held numerous positions at IBM, and most recently was a Senior Engineering Manager for Process Design Kit Enablement in the IBM Semiconductor Research and Development Center. Ms. Grise led the overall IT infrastructure implementation and software development in support of semiconductor device modeling verification, packaging, and delivery; device measurement and characterization data collection and management, and automation for device modeling engineers. Ms. Grise is a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, and an IEEE Senior member.
Bichlien Hoang is a former Senior Program Director, IEEE Future Directions. She managed the Life Sciences Initiative and was the Program Manager for the IEEE Rebooting Computing initiative. Prior to joining the IEEE staff in 2004, Bichlien spent 24 years in the telecommunications industry, at Bell Labs, Bellcore and Telcordia, where her latest position was Vice-President, Network Engineering. Bichlien is an IEEE Senior Member.
Kathleen A. Kramer is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego and Director-Elect to IEEE Region 6 (Western USA). She also serves as a Vice-President for the IEEE Aerospace Electronics Systems Society (AESS), leading its Distinguished Lecturer program and the AESS cyber security technical panel. She has been a Member of Technical Staff at several companies, including ViaSat, Hewlett Packard, and Bell Communications Research. She is a former department chair and Director of Engineering for the University of San Diego and currently serves as a member of the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. She has recent publications in the areas of multisensor data fusion, intelligent systems, and neural and fuzzy systems, and cyber security. She received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering magna cum laude with a second major in physics from Loyola Marymount University, and her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. She supports a number of student outreach activities including IEEE Region 6 Student Mentoring initiative and San Diego Expand Your Horizons.
Fabrizio Lombardi graduated in 1977 from the University of Essex (UK) with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Electronic Engineering. In 1977 he joined the Microwave Research Unit at University College London, where he received the Master in Microwaves and Modern Optics (1978), the Diploma in Microwave Engineering (1978) and the Ph.D. from the University of London (1982).
He is currently the holder of the International Test Conference (ITC) Endowed Chair Professorship at Northeastern University, Boston. His research interests are bio-inspired and nano manufacturing/computing, VLSI design, testing, and fault/defect tolerance of digital systems. He has extensively published in these areas and coauthored/edited seven books.
Roberto Saracco is the President of EIT ICTLABS Italy and Italy Node Director of EIT Digital (European Institute of Innovation and Technology). His background is in math and computer science. Up to December 2011 he was the Director of the Telecom Italia Future Centre in Venice, looking at the interplay of technology evolution, economics and society. At the turn of the century he led a World Bank-Infodev project to stimulate entrepreneurship in Latin America. He is a senior member of IEEE where he leads the Future Directions Committee. He has published over 100 papers in journals and magazines and 14 books.
Dr. Tonti holds a BSEE from Northeastern University, an MSEE and a P.h.D from the University of Vermont, and an MBA from St. Michael’s College. He retired from IBM in 2009 after 30+ years of service, working as the lead semiconductor technologist for a large part of his career. Dr. Tonti holds in excess of 290 issued patents, and has been recognized as an IBM Master Inventor. He was honored by having his 250’th patent issue transcribed into the U.S. Congressional Record. Dr. Tonti is a Fellow of the IEEE, a past IEEE Reliability Society President, a recipient of the IEEE Reliability Engineer of the Year award, and the IEEE 3rd Millennium medal. Dr. Tonti joined IEEE in 2009 as the Director of IEEE Future Directions where he works alongside staff and volunteers to incubate new technologies within the IEEE.
Elie Track is CEO of nVizix LLC, which he founded in 2013 to focus on commercializing a new high efficiency vacuum solar cell. For most of his career he was active in superconducting electronics with a focus on commercialization, including technology transfer of the Primary Voltage Standard designs from NIST to Hypres, Inc., a company for which he was President and CEO from 1994 to 2000, and remained Sr. Partner until recently. From 2003 to 2005 he was Visiting Professor of Physics at Fairfield University. He is an IEEE Fellow, President of the IEEE Council on Superconductivity, and a member of the IEEE Future Directions Committee. He has served as Chair and Program Chair of major conferences and workshops in superconductivity since 1998, including as Chair of the most recent 2014 Applied Superconductivity Conference. He served as President of the Yale Science and Engineering Association (YSEA) from 2007 to 2010 and as Chairman of the Coalition for the Commercial Applications of Superconductors (CCAS) from 2008 to 2010. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Yale University (1988) and is author/co-author of over 45 publications in the field.
Dr. Yu Yuan founded CATE Global, a multinational think tank focusing on bringing world-class expertise to clients and projects in China, USA, and the rest of the world. He is also serving as the CEO of Motiveware Technology, a company developing and providing technologies and standards for mobile internet, location based services, connected vehicles, drones, and 3D printing. Prior to this he had been working for IBM Research and was a key contributor to IBM IoT Technology Center.
