Captain Thomas Murphy joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2002 as a Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineer (RCEME) Officer.  He attended the Royal Military College in Kingston, ON and graduated with a BSc in Chemistry.  Upon Graduation his first posting was to CFB Petawawa, ON where he was assigned to Training Platoon and then Weapons and Electronics Platoon with 2 Service Battalion.  In October of 2009 he was assigned to the National Support Element (NSE) for Task Force 1-10 as the Administration Officer of Maintenance Company and deployed to Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan in 2010.  During this deployment, he had the chance to serve in the Logistics Operations center and as the Second in Command of Maintenance Company, NSE.  Following tour he was posted to RCEME School in CFB Borden, ON, where he prepared and instructed Officer Training and held the Second in Command of Artisan Company position.  In the summer of 2013 he was assigned as an Exchange Officer with the US Army at Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ within the Advanced Materials Technology Branch. In this role he conducts R&D for Additive Manufacturing (AM) in order to apply this technology to US Army projects, enhancing future soldier capabilities.
