Title:

The Synthetic Aperture Radar Algorithm

Date:

Friday, March 8, 2013 at 1:30pm

Location:

E2-320 EITC Building, University of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus

Speaker:

Dr. Colin Gilmore
TRTech Manitoba

Abstract:

In this lecture, I will review the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) algorithm and discuss the computational issues around its implementation. This algorithm and its variations are used in a wide variety of applications: satellite based radar, aircraft radar, acousticbased oil-field exploration, underwater sonar systems, and arrays of radio telescopes. This algorithm allows for significant improvement in the resolution and quality of wave-based images when multiple data collection points are used.

The lecture will begin with a review of the Fourier Transform, and then move onto the SAR algorithm itself. Issues in its application will be discussed, and example images will be shown for both synthetic and real-world data.

This will be a free event.
