The International Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration focused on space exploration that takes place over 48-hours in cities around the world. The event embraces collaborative problem solving with a goal of producing relevant open-source solutions to address global needs applicable to both life on Earth and life in space. NASA is leading this global collaboration along with a number of collaborators and 100+ local partner organizations.
The challenges are divided into five categories: Technology in space, Human Space Flight, Asteroids, Earth Watch, and Robotics. Each category features a number of challenges for all age groups and interests. From software development, to website design, to video editing, and hardware development. There is a challenge for everyone.
The event takes place from April 12-13, 2014 in 90+ cities around the world and on the International Space Station in low-Earth-orbit. Winnipeg will be hosting one of the sites at the University of Manitoba.
This event is free and open to anyone ages 16+. The top two solutions will receive prizes and be entered into the worldwide competition where they will be judged by a panel of NASA judges.
