Title: NeuroBlate – An Innovation Spiral

Dr. Mark Torchia is currently the Executive Director of The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Manitoba. He is also the founder of Monteris Medical – a made in Manitoba innovative medical device company that developed NeuroBlate. Using magnetic resonance imaging, laser energy, and sophisticated software, the system provides a tool for neurosurgeons and an option for patients with brain tumours and other intracranial targets in a minimally invasive manner – reducing both health costs and post-operative care. In 2016 Dr. Torchia was recognized with a Governor General’s Innovation Award; and in 2015 he was honoured with the prestigious Ernest C. Manning Foundation Principal Award.

Dr. Torchia will be speaking about his journey to develop and commercialize an innovative and world class medical technology.
