An important award for our IEEE Student Branch!

The Politecnico di Torino Student IEEE Branch has been awarded the prize as ‘Most Improved Student Branch’ of the IEEE Italy Section. The award acknowledges and gratifies the efforts made in the last year to establish, also in our university, an association that groups all the students enrolled in the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers).

Vincenzo Randazzo (Ph.D. candidate in electronics and Student Branch’s treasurer) received the award during the RTSI conference held in Palermo on 12th of September; the conference was also a great opportunity to have an exchange with the other italian student branches.
The IEEE Student Branch of the Politecnico started its activities in 2017. Thanks to the commitment of prof. Maurizio Martina (SB Counselor), in the month of October the executive committee composed by Leonardo Iannucci (Chair), Antonia Silvestri (Vice-Chair), Umberto Garlando (Secretary), Vincenzo Randazzo (Treasurer) and Simone Aiassa (Webmaster) was formed. The SB can count on a very respectable number of members, in fact, our university counts well 121 student members enrolled in the IEEE!

During this year several initiatives were organized, such as seminars, a PhD-guidance event for all students of the Politecnico, and a Distinguished Lecture of the IEEE Photonics Society held by prof. G. Singh.

For the next year, there are already many ideas to involve more and more students and allow everyone to take advantage of the opportunities given by the IEEE through contests, seminars and opportunities for comparison between students.

On 26 October the SB will host at the Politecnico the Industrial Distinguished Lecture of dr. Benedetto Vigna, president of Analog, MEMS and Sensors Group at ST Microelectronics.
